What is this print job cost calculator?

A print job cost calculator combines per-side printing charges, physical paper use, finishing, and setup into a job total. It is useful when comparing in-house document production or a supplier quote whose components are priced separately.

How to use the calculator

Enter the number of complete copies and printed pages in each copy. Choose one or two printed sides per sheet. Add printing cost per side, paper cost per sheet, finishing per copy, and the shared setup charge. Keep paper outside the click charge only when it is not already included.

Check the input assumptions

Review the help text beneath each field before calculating. Enter amounts in US dollars where shown and use consistent units. Change one assumption at a time to understand which inputs affect your result.

Formula and worked example

Sheets per copy = round up(printed pages ÷ sides per sheet). Total = copies × (pages × print cost per side + sheets per copy × paper cost + finishing per copy) + setup. Cost per copy = total ÷ copies.

Example calculation

Five hundred eight-page documents printed double-sided need 2,000 sheets. At $0.04 per printed side, printing costs $160. Paper at $0.01 costs $20, finishing at $0.15 per copy costs $75, and setup adds $25. The total is $280, or $0.56 per copy.

These numbers illustrate the calculation; they are not recommended rates or industry benchmarks.

How to interpret your result

Compare identical paper, color, quality, and finishing specifications. Double-sided printing reduces sheet count but does not halve the number of printed sides. Larger runs spread setup over more copies, although your supplier may also change unit prices.

What the estimate leaves out

The layout assumes one page per side, not booklet imposition or several pages on a large press sheet. Waste, shipping, tax, equipment ownership, and labor are included only if you add them to an appropriate cost input. Use a supplier quote for production approval.

Frequently asked questions

Is a page the same as a sheet?

No. A page here means one printed side. An eight-page document printed double-sided normally uses four physical sheets under this simple layout.

What happens with an odd page count?

Sheets are rounded up per copy. A five-page double-sided document needs three sheets, even though the final sheet has one unprinted side.

What if my click charge includes paper?

Set the separate paper cost to zero. Enter each expense once so the total does not double-count paper already included in the printing charge.

Can I compare color and black-and-white printing?

Run separate scenarios using the appropriate per-side price. For mixed documents, calculate a weighted print price or calculate the two sets of pages separately.

Does this support booklet printing?

Not reliably for imposed booklets or large press sheets. Those layouts may require blank pages, trimming, and different sheet sizes. Use a print-production estimate for that work.
