What is this complete order fill rate calculator?

Complete order fill rate measures the share of eligible orders supplied in full on their first shipment. Each order counts once, regardless of its value or number of units. A partly supplied order does not count as complete under this definition.

How to use the calculator

Choose a period and an explicit eligibility rule. Count eligible orders and the subset filled in full on the first shipment. Apply one consistent treatment for cancellations, substitutions, and customer-requested split shipments before comparing periods.

Check the input assumptions

Review the help text beneath each field before calculating. Enter amounts in US dollars where shown and use consistent units. Change one assumption at a time to understand which inputs affect your result.

Formula and worked example

Complete order fill rate = complete first-shipment orders ÷ eligible orders × 100. Orders not complete = eligible orders − complete orders.

Example calculation

If 465 of 500 eligible orders were supplied completely on their first shipment, the fill rate is 93%. The remaining 35 orders represent 7% of the eligible group.

These numbers illustrate the calculation; they are not recommended rates or industry benchmarks.

How to interpret your result

Use the incomplete-order count to investigate shortages and picking failures. Compare similar order mixes: large multi-line orders have more opportunities for a shortage than single-line orders.

What the estimate leaves out

This measure does not verify delivery dates or distinguish one missing unit from a mostly unfilled order. It is not an on-time-in-full metric. With no eligible orders, the percentage is not applicable.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as unit fill rate?

No. Unit fill rate compares supplied units with requested units. This tool counts each complete order once.

Does a later backorder shipment make an order complete?

Not under this first-shipment definition. Track eventual completion separately if it matters to your operation.

Should canceled orders be included?

Set a documented eligibility rule before calculating. Apply it consistently so exclusions do not artificially improve the metric.

Is this an on-time-in-full calculator?

No. The tool does not ask whether a shipment arrived on time, so it cannot measure OTIF.

What is a good fill rate?

Use your service commitments and comparable historical results. This calculator does not prescribe a universal benchmark.
