What is this cycle count labor calculator?

This calculator converts an inventory counting assignment into labor effort and cost. It adds a time allowance for recounting and divides total person-hours across the crew for an ideal elapsed duration.

How to use the calculator

Count the SKU-location tasks included in the assignment. Estimate minutes per task using similar stock and access conditions. Add recount time as a percentage of initial hours, then enter counters and loaded hourly cost.

Check the input assumptions

Review the help text beneath each field before calculating. Enter amounts in US dollars where shown and use consistent units. Change one assumption at a time to understand which inputs affect your result.

Formula and worked example

Initial hours = records × minutes per record ÷ 60. Total hours = initial hours × (1 + recount allowance ÷ 100). Ideal crew hours = total hours ÷ counters. Cost = total hours × hourly cost.

Example calculation

Six hundred records at two minutes each require 20 initial hours. A 10% recount allowance adds two hours. The 22 person-hours cost $528 at $24 per hour and represent about 7.33 ideal hours for three counters.

These numbers illustrate the calculation; they are not recommended rates or industry benchmarks.

How to interpret your result

Use the hours for staffing and scheduling, while allowing for stock movement controls and access windows. The crew-time estimate assumes work can be divided evenly.

What the estimate leaves out

The model does not choose which inventory to count or establish audit assurance. Different stock types, counting methods, and reconciliation effort may require separate estimates.

Frequently asked questions

Does 10% mean 10% of records are wrong?

No. It adds time equal to 10% of initial counting effort.

Does the model include reconciliation?

Only if included in minutes per record or the added effort allowance.

Can three counters always finish in one-third the time?

Not when access, shared equipment, or review steps prevent even parallel work.

Should difficult locations be estimated separately?

Yes. Separate groups can give a better estimate than a broad average.

Is this an audit opinion?

No. It is a workload estimate and provides no assurance about the inventory records.
