What is this supplier on-time delivery rate calculator?

Supplier on-time delivery rate is the percentage of deliveries due in a period that arrived by their agreed cutoff. This calculator uses the due-period group, including deliveries that remain overdue, so missing shipments do not disappear from the denominator. Each delivery carries equal weight.

How to use the calculator

Choose a period and define the agreed receipt date, time window, and treatment of early arrivals. Count every eligible delivery due in that period. Then count those received on time. Freeze the reporting cutoff and apply the same rules to each supplier.

Check the input assumptions

Review the help text beneath each field before calculating. Enter amounts in US dollars where shown and use consistent units. Change one assumption at a time to understand which inputs affect your result.

Formula and worked example

On-time delivery rate = on-time deliveries ÷ deliveries due × 100. Deliveries not received on time = deliveries due − on-time deliveries.

Example calculation

If 120 deliveries were due and 108 arrived on time, the rate is 90%. Twelve deliveries missed the on-time standard, whether they arrived late or were still outstanding at the reporting cutoff.

These numbers illustrate the calculation; they are not recommended rates or industry benchmarks.

How to interpret your result

Use the percentage with the number of missed deliveries and their operational impact. A small shipment and a critical large shipment count equally, so review delay duration and affected orders before prioritizing supplier action.

What the estimate leaves out

This is not an on-time-in-full measure and does not evaluate quality or delivered quantity. Changing due dates after a miss can distort trends. A period with no due deliveries has no applicable rate.

Frequently asked questions

Should unreceived overdue deliveries be included?

Yes, if they were due in the selected period. Include them in deliveries due and leave them out of on-time receipts.

Does an early delivery count as on time?

Use your agreed delivery-window policy. Some businesses accept early receipts; others treat them as a separate exception.

Is this the same as OTIF?

No. OTIF also checks whether the delivery was complete. This calculator measures timeliness only.

Can I use purchase orders instead of deliveries?

Only if each counted order has one clearly defined delivery obligation. Split schedules need a consistent delivery-level counting rule.

Does the default 90% represent a target?

No. It is an illustrative result. Compare actual performance with your own service commitments and comparable history.
