What is this business survey response rate calculator?
This business survey calculator divides completed responses by eligible invitations. It is a simple participation measure for a known invited group, such as a customer feedback campaign. Define completion consistently before using the percentage in a report.
How to use the calculator
Count unique eligible invitees rather than the total number of email sends. Count completed responses from that same group. Remove duplicates consistently and document how you handle undeliverable invitations and partial responses.
Check the input assumptions
Review the help text beneath each field before calculating. Enter amounts in US dollars where shown and use consistent units. Change one assumption at a time to understand which inputs affect your result.
Formula and worked example
Example calculation
A survey sent to 800 eligible people receives 160 completed responses. The completion rate is 20%, and 640 invitees have no completed response at the reporting cutoff.
These numbers illustrate the calculation; they are not recommended rates or industry benchmarks.
How to interpret your result
Compare campaigns with similar audiences, invitation channels, and response windows. A reminder may increase participation, but do not add repeat invitations to the unique-person denominator.
What the estimate leaves out
This simple ratio does not implement specialized survey disposition formulas. It does not estimate nonresponse bias, sampling error, or whether respondents represent all customers.
Frequently asked questions
Should reminder emails increase the invitation count?
No. Count unique eligible invitees once for this measure, even if they receive several reminders.
Do partial responses count?
Only if your documented completion rule classifies them as complete. Otherwise track them separately.
How should bounced emails be handled?
Choose and document an eligibility rule. Excluding undeliverable addresses changes the denominator, so disclose that choice.
Does a high response rate remove bias?
No. Participation can differ by customer type or experience even when many people respond.
Can I use this for an open public survey?
Not reliably if the number of eligible invited people is unknown. Use a different participation measure with a known denominator.
