What is this commercial laundry load planner?

This load planner converts a dry linen weight into whole washer loads using your usable capacity per load. It then estimates sequential washer time from the cycle and turnaround allowance. It does not choose an equipment capacity or laundering procedure.

How to use the calculator

Weigh dry linen for a compatible processing group. Enter the usable load weight appropriate to the washer and textiles. Add wash-cycle minutes and loading or unloading minutes per load. Calculate incompatible linen groups separately.

Check the input assumptions

Review the help text beneath each field before calculating. Enter amounts in US dollars where shown and use consistent units. Change one assumption at a time to understand which inputs affect your result.

Formula and worked example

Loads = round up(dry linen weight ÷ usable weight per load). Sequential hours = loads × (cycle minutes + turnaround minutes) ÷ 60.

Example calculation

Six hundred pounds of dry linen at 50 pounds per load require 12 loads. A 40-minute cycle plus 10 minutes of turnaround takes 50 minutes per load, giving 10 sequential washer hours.

These numbers illustrate the calculation; they are not recommended rates or industry benchmarks.

How to interpret your result

Compare estimated machine hours with available washer time. Multiple machines can reduce elapsed time, but this simple tool does not schedule them or check whether drying and staffing create a bottleneck.

What the estimate leaves out

The calculation assumes every load uses the same cycle duration, including a partial last load. It excludes drying, finishing, sorting, maintenance, and special handling. Follow equipment and textile instructions when selecting usable capacity.

Frequently asked questions

Should I enter wet or dry weight?

Use dry linen weight. Water retained after washing would distort the load estimate.

Can I combine all textile types?

Only if they can be processed together under your approved workflow. Otherwise calculate each compatible group separately.

Does a half-full load take half the time?

Not in this model. Each load uses the full cycle and turnaround duration you enter.

Does the result include dryer time?

No. Drying and finishing require separate capacity planning.

Can I divide hours by the number of washers?

That can be a rough ideal estimate for identical available machines, but whole loads, staffing, and downstream constraints can prevent an even split.
