What is this inventory count accuracy calculator?

Inventory count accuracy here means the share of checked SKU-location records whose physical count exactly matches the system quantity. Each record counts once. This definition is different from unit-weighted or value-weighted inventory accuracy.

How to use the calculator

Define a record as one SKU at one location and compare quantities at a consistent cutoff. Count the records checked and the exact matches. Resolve movement timing so receipts and shipments do not create false discrepancies.

Check the input assumptions

Review the help text beneath each field before calculating. Enter amounts in US dollars where shown and use consistent units. Change one assumption at a time to understand which inputs affect your result.

Formula and worked example

Exact record-match rate = matching records ÷ checked records × 100. Records with a variance = checked records − matching records.

Example calculation

Of 500 checked SKU-location records, 475 exactly match. Accuracy under this definition is 95%, with 25 records showing a variance.

These numbers illustrate the calculation; they are not recommended rates or industry benchmarks.

How to interpret your result

Review variance size and value alongside the percentage. A one-unit error and a large discrepancy count equally in this simple record measure.

What the estimate leaves out

This calculator does not establish a sampling method, assess financial materiality, or verify stock ownership. It reports the checked group only.

Frequently asked questions

Is this unit-level accuracy?

No. It measures matching records, not the share of individual units correctly recorded.

Can I allow a tolerance?

If you do, label the result as a within-tolerance match rate rather than exact accuracy and apply the tolerance consistently.

Should different locations be separate records?

Yes, if your inventory system tracks each SKU-location combination separately.

Does a high match rate prove stock value is correct?

No. Valuation and high-value discrepancies need separate review.

What if nothing was checked?

The result is no records checked, not 100% accuracy.
