What is this window cleaning labor hours calculator?

This calculator estimates labor from the number of pane sides to be cleaned and average effort per side. It adds setup person-hours and divides the workload across workers for an ideal elapsed duration.

How to use the calculator

Count pane sides rather than window openings. Enter a measured time appropriate to the glass and access conditions, then add setup effort not included in that rate. Enter worker count and loaded hourly cost.

Check the input assumptions

Review the help text beneath each field before calculating. Enter amounts in US dollars where shown and use consistent units. Change one assumption at a time to understand which inputs affect your result.

Formula and worked example

Cleaning hours = pane sides × minutes per side ÷ 60. Total person-hours = cleaning hours + other hours. Ideal crew hours = total hours ÷ workers. Labor cost = total hours × hourly cost.

Example calculation

Two hundred forty pane sides at two minutes each require eight cleaning hours. Add two setup hours for ten person-hours. Two workers imply five ideal elapsed hours, with $300 labor cost at $30 per hour.

These numbers illustrate the calculation; they are not recommended rates or industry benchmarks.

How to interpret your result

Separate easy-access panes from complex areas so an average does not hide major workload differences. Confirm the actual work plan before relying on the crew-duration estimate.

What the estimate leaves out

The tool does not evaluate access safety, specify equipment, or include unentered supplies and transport. It assumes divisible work and similar productivity among workers.

Frequently asked questions

Do inside and outside count separately?

Yes. Cleaning both sides of one pane counts as two pane sides.

Are frames and screens included?

Only if their effort is included in per-side time or other labor hours.

Can I use the default time for every building?

No. The default is illustrative. Use measured effort for the actual access and glass conditions.

Does the calculator recommend work-at-height methods?

No. Access and safety planning require a separate appropriate assessment.

Does adding workers always reduce duration evenly?

No. Shared equipment and limited access may prevent the ideal parallel schedule.
